THE UNITED CRICKET CLUB

PROFILE

The United Cricket Club was officially established in December 1997.

It followed weeks of discussions among Cricketers mostly from Waterbury, and a Group of Cricket Enthusiasts in the Waterbury Business Community.   After a few Meetings a Constitution was unanimously adopted, hence the Birth of The United Cricket Club.  The name “United” was intentionally given to reflect the strong desire and determination to unite all existing cricket teams and players in and around Waterbury.

In its very first year of existence, The United Cricket Club became Connecticut Cricket League’s 1998 Champion.  But the Club later took issue with that League because of unfair umpiring, indiscipline, abuse of power, lack of sportsmanship, disrespect and disregard for the League’s Constitution and By-laws, to name a few.  As a result, in the fall of 2001 our Club became one of the pioneers that broke ties with them and proceeded to play the leading and integral role in the formation of Southern Connecticut Cricket Association.

After several years of progress, The Leadership of the Southern Connecticut Cricket Association started to turn and then finally made a U-turn back to 2001. As a Club of principle, we naturally became vocal in our opposition to their dictatorial rule, constitutional violations, self-serving and unfairness of the Judicial Committee, excess budgetary spending, rejecting opposing views and targeting known critics, to name a few.  As a result the League’s Leadership requested that we apologize, remove these criticisms from our Website, and to promise not to continue such criticisms. However, our Club unanimously refused to accede to their demands and proceeded to join the New York Commonwealth Cricket League in March 2010 of which we are a proud Member.

With a current membership of 65, this Cricket Club is the most diverse in Connecticut.  The Countries of Origin of Our Members and Fans are: Antigua, Dominican Republic, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Nepal, Pakistan, Puerto Rico, Trinidad, Ukraine, Lithuania, Suriname, and the U.S.A.  The Club respects and accommodates the more than three different religious affiliations of its Members.

With the lowest Membership Fee ($45.00 for Players and $22.50 for Non-Players since its inception), the Club certainly could not have afforded this without the following Sponsors and Donors over these years:  Davensharpe, Munasami & Family, Computer Express, Anderson’s Auto Electric, Exmet Corporation, Alphonse Ladyga & Family, American Bank, American Rubber Stamp, Sullivan Liquors, Ryan Arnajallum, Dynasty Sounds, American Motor Lodge, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

We believe that the Game of Cricket should be used as a vehicle to foster unity and camaraderie; to exemplify true sportsmanship and discipline; and to inculcate the habit of loosing gracefully and winning humbly.

The Club has been issued numerous Proclamations from the Offices of the Governor of Connecticut and the Mayor of Waterbury.
